IMPHAL, May 5: The Awang Sekmai Nongthonband Youth Club (ASNYC) has upped the ante by blocking the approach road leading to the Sekmai LPG gas bottling plant indefinitely to protest against government’s inaction.
According to Dhana, the secretary of ASNYC, people are angry because CAF & PD minister Moirangthem Okendra didn’t keep his promise and the officials befool the people of Nongthonband.
“The club will not accept any proposal for negotiation until and unless road development works are not initiated on the spot. LPG bullet-tankers are extremely dangerous and the conflagration caused by their explosion could spread to a radius of 10 Kms. So, the road they travel needs to be very smooth,” he said.
He pointed out that even though after submitting a memorandum to the CAF & PD minister on April 26 in relation with the repairing of approach road leading to the Sekmai LPG bottling plant along the National Highway-2, Imphal-Dimapur Road, there was no positive response from the government.
Meanwhile, the Rosan Youth club, Tisbari village also supported the blockade on the approach road and informed of its decision to block the inter village road passing through their village connecting with Kanglatongbi village and leading to the NH-2.
A MoU was signed between ASNYC and CAF & PD under secretary M Yaishkul at the concerned minister’s chamber after a long discussion on April 12 with the government assuring the club to start repairing the road within 19 April. The government then asked for an extension period till May 2.
Unfortunately, the government didn’t give any positive response from the concerned authority. However, they have decided to wait for some appropriate action from the government in repairing the approach road till May 2.
The club had earlier imposed a bandh on the approach road from April 1 to 3 but called it off after the government invite them for discussion on April 3.
