IMPHAL, May 5: The family of the general observer of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Chandra Bhanu, IAS who died on duty of cardiac arrest during the Lok Sabha polls has been announced with a 35 lakhs ex-gratia compensation.
According to a highly placed source, the Election Commission of India has already issued instructions for granting ex-gratia compensation to the families of polling personnel who died or sustained injuries while on election duty.
The Commission has considered the matter for granting ex-gratia compensation to the family of Chandra Bhanu, IAS who died while on observer’s duty and has decided that a payment of ex-gratia compensation of Rs.35,00,000 has to be made to the next of kin of Chandra Bhanu, IAS, who was posted as Observer in Manipur during the current Lok Sabha Elections, the sources added.
The payment of ex-gratia compensation shall be given by the Chief Electoral Officer of the State of Manipur as the deceased was posted in Manipur even if appointed by the Commission. However, the expenditure incurred shall be shared between the State and Central Government as per the existing policy of sharing of election expenditure.
