KANGPOKPI, May 29: The Manipur Theological College Calamity Relief Committee formed under the initiative of Kangpokpi Town Committee after the college’s upper floor building was razed down to ashes by a mysterious inferno on April 19, midnight has lauded local MLA Nemcha Kipgen today for donating 40 bundles of GCI sheets to the committee.
The committee secretary Haokholun Chongloi while speaking during the handover function of the donated GCI Sheets to the college authority this morning at the college campus said that everybody in the state from the hills as well as valley have been emotionally, mentally and physically moved seriously when they came to know about the calamity.
He continued that MTC is the first and only theological college in the state where every theologian either from the hills or valley learn and benefit in the field of theology. Therefore, it has been valued intensely and everyone loved the college, he added.
With the initiative of the Kangpokpi Town Committee, a 10 member MTC Calamity Committee had been set up immediately to generate funds to help in the timely revival of the college so as to resume the session as scheduled.
Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen donated 40 bundles of GCI Sheet worth around Rs 1.34 lakhs in market when the committee approached her for assistance for timely revival of the college, Haokholun Chongloi said while adding that with the donation the upper portion of the college is expected to be roofed before the monsoon hits heavy.
He also said that every church within Sadar Hills in particular have been informed to organised a prayer and offering program on June 1 (Sunday) for complete and better revival of the college and its functioning.
The MTC Calamity Relief Committee also appealed every like-minded individual to donate and help the committee as well as the college authority for the success of the proposed revival of the college on time.
