Traffic disrupted along Mayai Lambi; Imphal unaffected by general strike

IMPHAL, May 30: Normal life and traffic along the Mayai Lambi Mayang Imphal Road on the first day of the 48 hour Manipur bandh launched by the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged shooting incident at the Ekop Ningthou Yakabu Semgat Sagat Lup Uchiwa Hayel.

Supporters had burned down a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike for defying the bandh at Yumnam Huidrom informed a source.

The effect of the bandh was hardly visible in Imphal, and all passenger service vehicles were seen plying along all routes. Markets and shops remained open for the day as normal.

However, Mayai Lambi Mayang Imphal areas were mostly affected as bandh supporters were seen coming along the road and disturbing vehicular traffic by burning tyres and placing rock boulders and other objects in the middle of the road.

All markets and shops in the area remained closed during the bandh.

Bandh supporters burned down a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike at Yumnam Huidrom bazar area this noon.

A JAC member lamented that the police have been unable to arrest even a single individual involved in the firing at the Uchiwa, some five days ago, where several persons including a MPS officer of the Mayang Imphal police was injured.

He said in case the government continue and if the government take the positive steps they will take other formed of agitation, he said.
