Kwak Tanba performed in Uttra Shanglen

IMPHAL, October 4: The ritual of Kwak Tanba was performed at the Utrra Shanglen today under the supervision of Manipur`™s titular King Leishemba Sanajoba as observed since time immemorial.

The rituals related with the ancient tradition of Kwak Tanba were performed at the Uttra Sanglen located near the premises of the Sana Konung.

The titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba along with his nobles started the traditional procession from the Sana Konung to the Uttra Shanglen after the recitals of various hymns.

The Kwak Tanba ceremony was performed at the ground before the Uttra Shanglen.

Speaking to media persons, Uttra Shanglen Sana Konung chairman Salam Birendra said the Kwak Tanba ceremony has been observed since time immemorial.

The `Nongoubi`™ bird was used while performing the rituals in this age-old religious tradition of Kwak Tanba but nowadays any available bird is being used to observe whether the year ahead portends well for the State by observing the flight direction of the bird, he added.

The Kwak Tanba ceremony has been performed on tarani panba of Lairema Chaorel Houba since the time of Nongda Lairen Pakhangba.
