IMPHAL, Oct 11: The Umanglaikanba Apunba Lup (UKAL), has deferred its deadline for the government to find an amicable solution to the Shri Govindajee Temple (3rd Amendment) Bill 2014 impasses till October 19.
It may be noted that UKAL has imposed a ban on the Chief Minister, his council of ministers and MLAs from attending any activities and sacred places relating to Umang Lai.
The body has also decided to boycott the upcoming Sangai festival if an amicable solution is not brought to the impasse.
Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office, UKAL spokesperson Naokhomba, divulged that the decision to defer its deadline was taken following strong assurance given by the Chief Minister during a meeting held yesterday.
Works Minister, Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, was also present during the meeting, he said.
He continued that a delegation of UKAL met with the Chief Minister at his official residence wherein he assured to reconsider the government`™s decision on the Shri Govindaji Temple (3rd Amendment) Bill.
The bill was passed by the Assembly on July 25 last and awaiting the Governors`™ assent to convert it into an Act. Naokhomba further revealed that they expected a positive response from the government in its 6th session of Mera Meepham to be held on October before adding that both the Chief Minister and the Works minister will also attend the session.
The spokespersons however warned that they will go ahead with its agitation if the government fails to fulfil UKAL`™s demand.
