LAMKA, October 18: Elected representatives are responsible for under development in the hill areas. They are the one who misuse development funds, alleged Joychandra Konthoujam on the 28th Raising Day (Neihsial Colony) under Churachandpur District.

Joychandra was speaking as the chief guest of the Raising Day celebration held today at Neihsial Colony, a suburban in Lamka. He said that multi-ethnic reality of Manipur should always be kept in mind. While raising any demand from the government, in the interest of an ethnic group, we should be careful not to hurt the interest of other ethnic community as well, he observed.

Joychandra continued that it is time to do away with our narrow outlook; time for us now is to join the computer age, which would help to move towards development.

He emphasised that unity and integrity is the motto of UCM and we should work for self-reliance.

Further, he said that UCM will render support in pursuing the demand of recognised tribe for Neishial community.

It may be mentioned that the Neigsial veng, which has about 50 households, is one of the many places where the diversely settled Neihsial has inhabited. They have their own language and custom. Neihsial community has been claiming that they are neither under Gangte nor Vaiphei, though the community is currently under the umbrella of Vaiphei People Council.

Ahem Guite, guest of honour of the function, lauded the UCM leaders who have come to take part in the Raising Day. He also commended the chief of the village, DK Shingto, for his perseverance, because of which the community has been able to survive with a distinct language and culture.

The youth of the village performed traditional dance and songs of Naihsial community as part of the celebration.
