CHANDEL, Oct 23: All seven Naga tribes in Chandel joined hearts in prayer to the almighty for bountiful harvest on the auspicious occasion of Chavan Kumhrin celebrated across the hill villages in the district today.
Common to all Nagas in Chandel as the harvesting festival, all people looked to churches wherein prayer services were held in the morning.
People brought their first fruit of the harvest in thanksgiving and say prayers for plentiful harvest due shortly.
As part of the celebration indigenous games and sports were conducted in some of the villages and arranged Chavan feast as well.
It might be mentioned that Chandel district administration, on May 15, 1978, declared October 23 Chavan Kumhrin as a district holiday.
Since then the people of the district have been celebrating the festival every year.
