IMPHAL, October 30: Women Action for Development (WAD) has in a press release condemned the alleged sexual assault on four minor girls in different part of the State in the past few days.
A minor girl, a student of Class II studying at Merciful English School, Hangeul Thoubal District was allegedly sexually assaulted by Arambam Robindro Alias Ibungo, 38, on the night of October 26 at 8.00 pm. Robindro is a mathematics teacher where the girl is studying, the press release recounts.
On the other hand, three (3) minor girls who stayed in a rented house together at Churachanpur District were also allegedly assaulted sexually between 7 to 19 Oct this year. It is also reported that a minor identified as Siamthianmuan, 15, of Tangnuan Village has allegedly sexually assaulted the three minor girls, continued the release from WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam.
WAD has documented at least 33 sexual assault cases including 22 cases in which the victims are minor since the beginning of this year till October 2014 in Manipur. WAD is seriously concern about the sudden increase of such cases, the press release adds.
Stressing that the accused in most of the cases of such crimes are yet to be brought to justice despite the fact that existing laws prescribed time bound justice, Sobita Mangsatabam said in the press release that WAD has observed in most of the cases that the people resorted to mob justice in the absence of speedily justice to the victims. She further said in the press release that WAD in any case does not encourage such forms of mob justice and at the same time urged the authority concern to ensure speedy justice within a time bound manner as prescribed by the law of the country in order to avoid any untoward incident including mob justice.
