IMPHAL, December 12: The Meitei Inat Semgat Lup has stated in a press release that the Govindaji Temple Board would be held responsible if any unwanted controversies related with the worshipping of Umanglai and Lai Haraoba celebrations, which are held sacred by the Meiteis in the State and settled in other parts of the world, emerge.
The controversy emerged after the board of the pundits tried to keep the deep-rooted traditions of the community under their control by spreading canards to the government, it added.
Without resorting to settle the issues amicably by cooperating with others and holding discussions in a proper time and place, they still try to create controversies around Umanglai by poisoning the ears of those who is in power time and again, it added.
The board of the pundits are trying to pick on UKAL which is striving to perform all the rituals and celebrations of Umanglai without creating any controversies with the support of the people, it said.
If a controversy erupted in the State around the worship of Umanglais, the board of the pundits which has been acting as the custodians of this land for more than 2000 years cannot escape easily, it said. If they can`™t act in a civilised manner, their cultural significance and role in our traditions will diminish, it added.
The board of the pundits of Manipur has been trying to defile the sacred tradition of Lai Haraoba celebrations and attempting their level best to keep it away from the Meitei community which can no longer be tolerated by the present generation of the community, it said.
The board of the pundits of Manipur which were in charge of Lai Haraoba celebrations for 2000 years can no longer hypnotise the people, the press release said.
Apart from attempting to put the community under their control by fabricating history, customs, traditions, rituals and festivals, they are now whispering in desperation to take legal actions against the Registar office which wouldn`™t be realised even in their dreams, it said.
The vocation of the Manipuri pundits which subsists by trading the national identity of the community, attempting to put the integrity of the community at its nadir, making efforts to keep their ancestral Umanglais under the control of the Govindaji Temple Board and also do not desist from spreading canards will be repulsive to even unborn babies in their mother`™ wombs, the press release said.
