Imphal Expo 2nd edition gets underway at Palace Compound

IMPHAL, December 11: Inaugurating the 2nd edition of Imphal Expo, deputy Chief Minister of the Sate, Gaikhangam said that it will help in giving a boost to the growth of industrial sector in Manipur.

The trade expo is organised by the Manipur Industrial Development Council with National Small Industries Corporation, which began today at the Iboyaima Shumang Lila Sanglen, Palace Compound Imphal.

Continuing his deliberation, Gaikhangam said that though Manipur is a small State, its people are innovative and skillful. Other States are jealous of the unique abilities the people of Manipur have, he added. The expo will definitely help in giving a proper direction to those who are engage in entrepreneurial works, he said.

Emphasizing that the State is already known to the world for its rich culture, art and prowess in sports, with just 28 lakhs population, it has become one of the proud flag bearers in the regard for India, Gaikhangam added,

He also said that Manipur is a god gifted land with beautiful natural environment, however in this atmosphere with limit facilities; people are trying to survive with strong spirit.

He lauded the effort of the organiser for conducting such expo. He expressed his happiness having seen the display of innovative works in the stalls. Entrepreneurship and its awareness are needed, especially for the unemployed youths who may get hooked to the habit of drug abuse easily, he pointed out.

The event was also graced by the chief General Manager NSIC Ltd. East and North East Zone, JK Mahanta as functional president and Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries, L Lakher with Additional Director, T Rajen as the guests of Honour.

Altogether, 105 stalls are taking part in the expo, which include handloom and handicraft items, foot wears and electronic gadgets etc. The expo will continue for 10 days.
