IMPHAL, December 27: The BJP State unit conducted an enrolment drive cum political conference today at Thanga.
Speaking at the function, the party`™s State president Th Chaoba said the party had started the enrolment drive since November 1 and attracted droves of people into the party`™s fold.
Thanga is one of the constituencies where there has been a Congress MLA since the past two-three terms, however, the local MLA has never been made a minister, he said. The local MLA Mangibabu is the chairman of PDA which is useless, he continued.
Thanga has been deprived of development, he said adding that the place is a tourist spot and visited by tourist both from inside the State and outside including foreign tourists.
However, the tourists are welcomed by only mud and dust due to the deplorable road conditions, he continued.
The development of the North East region is of utmost priority of the Modi government he said and added that the Prime Minister has been promoting tourism of the Manipur and the region.
He said the party will further urged the Centre to look into the disparity in the MGNREGS scheme and the allegations that the locals MLAs have withdrawn 25 percent of all MGNREGS works and the job card holders are not given 100 days work.
Thanga has 1628 job card holders, he said.
The PDS items seldom reach the poor people during the last 10 years, he said.
He further appealed to the people to open bank accounts so that they can avail the benefits provided by the Modi government.
BJP, Manipur Pradesh general secretary administration, Asnikumar said the target of the party is to reach 6000 members in Thanga constituency by March 2015.
Although the constituency is lagging behind in development at the moment, the scene would be much different after the next State Assembly general election as the BJP will come to power, he observed.
He said the BJP is also trying to get approval for the National Sangai project.
