IMPHAL, Dec 27: A United Club, Manipur team led by its general secretary Joychandra Konthouja distributed blankets, sugar, salt and a water tank at Khongnangpokpi Village, Senapati district today as part of its X-Mass endeavour.

The Khongnangpokpi village was established in the year 1952 by the Komren villagers and now 62 years after, the village has a population of 400 including men, women and children.

Manipur is inhabited by different communities, said Joychandra adding that there are 39 recognised tribes and more than 10 unrecognised.

He said the minority communities are unable to bring their representatives to the State Assembly, however, if the government enacts the Manipur Legislative Council, it will give a new lease of life to the smaller communities by helping them to elect their own representatives.

He further called upon the government to discuss the issue in the State Assembly and help the smaller communities get involved in the governance.

Manipur also needs to encourage work culture, he said.

The people of the State should try to respect each other, he also said.

The UCM team also assured to install a hand pump inside the village church compound at the earliest.

On the other hand another team led by UCM president Y Nabachandra also distributed blankets, sugar and salts at Lisham Lok village of Senapati district today.
