Students and locals disrupt vehicular movement on NH-2

THOUBAL, January 9: As a part of the agitations launched yesterday by the students union of Thoubal College and people settled on either side of the road leading to the College from the Thoubal College Lamkhai, lvehicular movement on the National Highway 2 (39) was disrupted today.

Students of the College and RUDA Academy, and Meira Paibis of Wangmataba came out at the National Highway at around 10.30 am and carried out the road blockade. The blockade caused disruptions to the vehicular traffic on NH-2. After a Police team led by DSP (Opps) Shankerdev talked with the agitators, normal vehicular traffic resumed at around 1.30 pm.

General Secretary of the Thoubal College Students Union, Rojit said that the third semester exam of BA/BSc/BCom conducted by Manipur University would be boycotted from the day after and if the government fails to give us an assurance of developing the road by January 15, the road blockade would resume the next day

Lamenting the non-development of the road which leads to a College which is more than 50 years old, a woman who took part in the agitations stated that the residents of the locality would support the agitations of the students.
