IMPHAL, Nov 5: The state cabinet meeting convened today under the chair of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi discussed the present scarcity of petroleum products in the state and instructed the concerned district administration to tackle the menace of black-marketing.
According to a highly placed official source, the cabinet resolved to bring back 100 oil-tankers stranded at Khatkhatti on the NH-39 under strict supervision of Manipur DGP following withrawal of CRPF from the excort duty after an instruction from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govrnment of India.
The cabinet also resolved to penalize any service station (oil pump) involved in illegal trading of petroleum products by canceling the license.The cabinet also closely examined the report of the fact finding team regarding black-marketing prevalent in Senapati district. It was learnt that the petroleum products available in the black-market was mainly brought to Senapati from other states by some local traders.Meanwhile, a highly placed state official further disclosed that the chairperson of UPA Sonia Gandhi is most likely to visit Manipur on November 12 to inaugurate some major projects of the state including the Khuga Multi-purpose Project, three women’s markets of Khwairamband Bazar and the tribal market at New Lambulane.
