BISHNUPUR, Jul 15: The four students arrested by Bishnupur District Police for taking part in ILP agitation on July 13 have been sent to jail today after they were produced before the court.
The four students are president of AMSU Bishnupur District Branch Thiyam Kabichandra son of Th Birahari of Khoijuman; co-ordination and networking secretary of AMSU Bishnupur Branch Khangembam Shining son of Kh Sunil of Bishnupur Ward No 4; finance in-charge of AMSU Bishnupur Branch Konjengbam Premkanta son of K Kanta and Ningthoujam Robindro son of Late N Chandani Devi of Bishnupur Ward No 7.
They were arrested by a team of Bishnupur District Police from their houses on July 13 around 9 pm.
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the arrest of the students, a sit-in-protest was staged at Bishnupur Bazar today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, convener of JCILPS Women`™s Wing Lourembam ongbi Nganbi warned of imposing indefinite public curfew in Bishnupur district in case the police fail to release the four students unconditionally within July 20.
A rally was also taken out up to the office of DC Bishnupur during which slogans against the arrest were shouted.
