Major rivers running high

IMPHAL, August 1: The incessant rain over the past few days has resulted in the rise of water level of all major rivers in the State.

According to reports from the Control Room of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the Imphal River is running above the flood stage; Lilong River and Thoubal River are above the highest flood level while the Nambol River is about to reach the highest flood level mark on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, rainfall during the past 24 hours has been recorded at 47 mm at Raj Bhavan, 49mm at Lamphel, 47mm at Kangpokpi, 31mm at Saikul and 57mm at Litan.

The reports also said that since this afternoon, rainfall in the hills has ceased and if the weather continues to remain dry, the levels of the major rivers will automatically recede.

IFCD officials are still on alert and busy mending breaches of the Imphal River bank at several places including at Kairang, Singjamei, Thokchom Leikai Mathak, Yaishkul Janmastan, Singjamei Kshetri Leikai, Brahmapur Bheigyabati Leikai.
