IMPHAL, August 18: The opposition MLAs are all prepared to support the ILP bill once it is introduced in the House by the government, MLA I Ibohalbi who is also the opposition leader informed media persons today.
He said we are ready to support the bill, but the bill should be acceptable to all and should be under the ambit of the Indian Constitution.
Now that the government has placed its stand on the five-point demand of the JCILPS, both sides should come together and discuss the issue thoroughly, he said.
The sooner the bill gets passed by the House, the better it will be for all, he said.
The opposition MLA observed only a mere 8 percent of the total area of the State is non-scheduled area.
The present movement spearheaded by JCILPS is for the protection of the native indigenous people of the land he said, and further added that it is a genuine demand.
Meanwhile, speaking on the present GOI-NSCN (IM) peace accord signed recently, he said it will be wrong interpretation to call the accord as Naga accord.
The accord was signed between an underground group of Nagaland and the government, he elaborated.
He said the government is yet to disclose the details of the accord citing that it was only a framework accord.
He said the manner in which the details of the accord have been kept wrapped up may be a ploy of the Centre to suppress any unrest in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
Now the main question is whether we wait for the Centre to come out with the details, he observed.
He also said that it would be too late if the people continue to wait for the government o come out with the details.
The opposition MLA further urged the State government to turn into action the resolution taken during yesterday`™s all political parties meeting.
The opposition MLAs and all political parties in the State are ready to help the government in bringing an amicable solution to the present issue, he continued.
We welcome peace in the region and the Accord, but the Centre should also realise that the NSCN (IM) is not the only UG group operating in the region, he said.
Just in order to bring a UG group into the mainstream, the government should not disturb the territorial boundaries and administration of other State, he continued.
