Robinhood`s funeral to be held at Awa Ching today

IMPHAL, September 2: The funeral rites of Sapam Robinhood killed in police action during a student rally demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit System on July 8 will be conducted tomorrow.

Making the announcement during a press conference, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Students`™ Wing convenor Nandababu said as per the agreement reached between the government and the JCILPS yesterday, Robinhood`™s funeral rites will be conducted at Awa-Ching on September 3 at 2pm.

The press meet held at the All Manipur Students`™ Union office was also attended by representatives of the All Manipur Students`™ Guardian Association, All Manipur Recognized Private Schools Welfare Association, Private School Development Council Thoubal, JCILPS Student Wing and Joint Students Co-ordinating Committee

Nandababu said Modern College, Porompat will act as the meeting point for people coming from all districts.

He said the people will then take out a peace procession to claim the lifeless body of the student and will take it first to his home at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai from where it will be taken to hi school Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School.

There people will pay floral tributes from where it will be taken directly to Awa Ching where his body will be cremated, he informed.

Representing the JCILPS Student Wing, Nandababu appealed to the people of Manipur to attend the mass procession and funeral rite of Robinhood.

`JCILPS Students`™ Wing appeals to all the clubs, organisations, meira paibis, individuals, students of private and government institutions including medical colleges, transporters`™ associations to take part in the mass procession,` he said.

Joint Students`™ Co-ordinating Committee co-convenor Moirangthem Laxman said that the JSCC had met with teachers`™ associations, van services of schools yesterday and arrived at the agreement that since the schools were closed for the past two months in the State capital, the school transporters will charge only 50 percent of the fare for these two months, the students will pay only 30 percent of their monthly fees, and the teachers will received only 50 percent of their monthly salaries for these two months.

The JSCC further appealed to all schools including those which are yet not informed of the development to follow the agreement.

The meeting, he said was attended by representatives of teachers`™ associations, van Services and All Manipur Recognized Private Schools`™ Association and JSCC yesterday.

However these conditions only apply to the schools in Imphal East and Imphal West which have been affected by the ILPS movement, JSCC representative added.

All Manipur Recognized Private Schools Welfare Association secretary L Joy Khuman speaking at the press meet appealed all the students to take part in the mass procession along with their school authorities.
