IMPHAL, Nov 16: The Kangla Fort, one of the historic places of the State has been converted into a departmental store for Power Department by the Congress Government, president of Manipur People`™s Party (MPP) N Sovakiran has pointed out.

Speaking to media persons at the office of MPP here today, Sovakiran alleged the Congress Government of exercising excessive power to gain political mileage and demoralizing holy places and heritage sites of the State.

Demanding to shift the electric pole, transformers and other materials from the northwestern side of Kangla Fort at the earliest, he asked the Kangla Fort Board headed by the CM who gives the approval to store the materials at the sacred place.

If the practice is not stopped, the sacred Kangla Fort will become a dumping place for other government departments in near future, Sovakiran said.

He also appealed to the people to refrain from casting vote to Congress party in the ensuing by-election in Thangmeiband and Thongju constituencies.

President of MPP Youth Machang Soibam who was present at the press meet alleged CM Ibobi of using government departments as earning place for Congress leaders and questioned the Kangla Fort Board authority whether the board is not aware of the malpractice inside the sacred fort.

Moreover, people are not satisfied with the ongoing decoration works for the ensuing Sangai Festival at huge cost, he said.
