Economic blockade against deplorable highway condition in Manipur suspended

KANGPOKPI, December 7: The indefinite economic blockade imposed along the Trans Asian Highway No.1 by CSOs Sadar Hills from midnight of December 2 over the dilapidated road condition has been suspended yesterday from 8 pm.

The CSOs decision to suspend the economic blockade came after the concerned contractor assured the CSOs Sadar Hills to begin the work along the highway during a meeting yesterday at the MLA quarter of Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal at around 12 noon.

CSOs Sadar Hills spokesperson Lamcha Chongloi affirmed the CSOs Sadar Hills decision to suspend the ongoing indefinite economic blockade along the highway from 8 pm yesterday stating that the concerned contractor have positively responded and assured to begin exertion of the work along the highway at the earliest.

However, the spokesperson cautioned that the CSOs Sadar Hills will strictly monitor maintenance of quality in the implementation of the work.

The CSOs also warned that if the work is not executed as assured and quality not maintained, the CSOs Sadar Hills will resort to extreme agitations again.

Alleging the contractor and concerned department as well as the state Government for the deplorable road condition of the Trans Asian Highway No.1 along Imphal-Dimapur road, the CSOs Sadar Hills comprising Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, KWU Sadar Hills and other local civil bodies imposed the indefinite economic blockade along the highway since December 2 midnight.

The CSOs Sadar Hills even threatened to called indefinite total bandh along the highway if the contractor and the concerned department failed to begin the work along the highway within a week during the economic blockade before suspending the stir yesterday night at around 8 pm.
