Knowledge gained will help students in development of society: ISRO chairman

IMPHAL, December 11: The National Institute of Technology, Manipur, Langol today observed its 2nd Convocation programme in the presence of secretary, Department of Space, chairman, Space Commission and chairman Indian Space Research Organisation AS Kiran Kumar.

The convocation programme was organised by members of the Board of Governors, Members of Senate, Faculty and Staff of National Institute of Technology Manipur.

Before the start of the formal programme, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy Singh who is also chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board had inaugurated NIT Academic Block II and Indoor Stadium cum Auditorium by unveiling the inaugural plaque of the building.

Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Kumar said knowledge that the students gained will contribute to the development of the society.

To those graduating students participating in the convocation, he said graduation is only the beginning of education.

The ISRO chairman said the climate change, that the world is facing, is a serious issue affecting rainfall pattern, crops etc.

He said that India by contributing in the world issue is targeting to find means to reduce its carbon emission.

The chief guest said that there is need to have innovative and scientific approach to meet the global issues.

Dr N Bijoy Singh as the guest of honour said that the methods of learning will be commendable for prospective growth of the nation.

He said that there is need to have creative leaders to change the traditional role of transforming commander to coach.

The 2nd convocation programme was also attended by chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Manipur Prof Yagnaswami Sundara Rajan as president.

Rudi Okram daughter of O Rudrababu Singh and RK Kendida Devi of Keisampat Leimajam Leikai was conferred with ‘Chairman’s Gold Medal for overall topping in B Tech 2011-15 in all streams with CGPA of 9.67 in NIT Manipur.

She was also conferred with the ‘Institute’s Gold Medal’ for topping in B Tech 2011-15 in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in NIT Manipur.

She is presently undergoing M Tech in EEE at the IIT, Guwahati.

The convocation was for students of department of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
