JIRIBAM, December 18 (JNN): The Barak Brothers’ Union (BBU), an apex body of Barak Circle conducted a social work along Jiri–Tipaimukh road which is the only lifeline of Barak Circle people and also one of the most important roads of Tipaimukh constituency.
The BBU began the social work from the gateway of Murbung teagarden and continued up to the stretch of 32 kms.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, D Lomsang Hmar, general secretary of BBU lamented that the government preferred to turn a blind eye to the deplorable road despite submitting memorandums to PWD Minister, local MLA Th Devendra Singh and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on December 16 last urging to restore the road at the earliest.
He said that PWD blacktopped the road in 2012-13 just for namesake as the road wore off in three months.
Moreover, the ten bridges along the road are also left unattended by the concerned authorities, compelling the people of Barak Circle to look after it in its own way, he said.
Vanlalhriet Hmar, general secretary of Barak Circle Development Demand Committee (BCDDC) regretted that the Jiri–Tipaimukh road is now in its most deplorable condition with potholes on every section of the road.
He said that the social work was conducted with funds collected from government employees, taxi and auto drivers of the circle to thwart any road mishap along the road.
There had been five road mishaps and several cases of vehicular glitches along the road in the last one year caused due to deplorable condition, he said, adding that it took almost four hours to travel along the 40-km Khangbor-Jiribam road.
He cautioned that the union will resort to launch agitation if the government fails to address the plight faced by people of Barak Circle mainly the deplorable Jiri–Tipaimukh road.
