Churachandpur, December 18: The JAC against the ‘Anti Tribal Bills’ has said that it would boycott the proposed inauguration of a power sub-station by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at Vangai area of Churachandpur district.
A press statement issued by the Information and Publicity Department of the JAC, stated that the JAC has received information from some reliable sources that the Manipur government has planned to inaugurate a power sub-station in the district at Vangai area on December 22.
It said the Chief Minister is likely to inaugurate the station in the presence of some tribal MLAs.
On getting the information the JAC convened a meeting and deliberated on the issue, and eventually resolved to boycott the State government’s proposed programme, it said.
It further said that the same power sub-station was ready and planned to be inaugurated four years back and with the current turmoil in the tribal areas of Manipur following the passing of three anti tribal bills in the State Assembly and the ever growing resentment against the State government, this planed programme is anticipated as a ploy to appease the tribal populace while at the same time utterly disregarding the tribal sentiment.
It was further agreed to oppose any attempt of the State government proceed with the proposal or any other programme of similar nature and further request the public not to participate in the proposed programme.
