Manipur’s first elected CM remembered on centenary birth anniversary

IMPHAL, December 19: Mairenbam Koireng was a disciplined, brave, determined and a rare leader, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said today during the centenary birth anniversary of the first elected Chief Minister of Manipur.

The observation was held at the Chengei Ground.

Recounting his past encounter with the freedom fighter, the Chief Minister said there are many qualities one could imbibe from the late leader including his ability to reply on the spur of the moment, experience in governance and wisdom.

Ibobi said the leader encouraged peace and unity among the people without any discrimination.

He said the true sense of observing the day would be for the people to imbibe the qualities of the great leader.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in his speech said the leader was a man of integrity and a symbol of unity.

He said Mairenbam Koireng was strictly against corruption.

At the start of the observation, the Chief Minister had also led the others in offering floral tributes at a newly constructed statue of the first Chief Minister of Manipur.
