IAF assists rescue mission

IMPHAL, January 4: Indian Air Force (IAF) immediately swung into action after the powerful earthquake hit Manipur and adjoining areas of the North-Eastern sector today early morning.

According to a release of PRO Defence, the Eastern Air command was tasked by Air HQ to airlift the NDRF team from Guwahati. Accordingly, one Avro aircraft transported 14 NDRF personnel and 2 tons of loads while an AN 32 aircraft carried 49 NDRF personnel along with 1.3 tons of load.Later the AN 32 undertook another sortie from Guwahati to convey a team of 33 NDRF personnel to Silchar. These missions to deploy the NDRF team were undertaken in the shortest possible time, under demanding conditions, the release said.
