IMPHAL, January 7: Road connecting Bishnupur to Rengpang earth formation will be completed by March 2016 and black topping for the same will tentatively be completed by the end of 2016 said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam during a visit at his native village Duithangjang Goitang, Khoupum Sub-Division yesterday to attend Golden Jubilee cum church dedication of Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
While addressing the gathering of the Golden Jubilee celebration, he said the reconstruction of severely deteriorated road condition of Old Cachar road also known as Tongjei Maril is his dream since he became MLA of Nungba Constituency. He said he had tried every possible means to commence reconstruction of Old Cachar Road but it did not materialise.
Gaikhangam further mentioned that after submitting the required DPR, reconstruction of Old Cachar road was finally initiated from 2014. He said that with the completion of this road, it will be reclaimed to its original name as ‘Tongjil Maril’ and will help shorten Imphal – Jiribam distance by 30Km.
It may be mentioned that the said road is reconstructed by two companies that is from Bishnupur to Zoujangtek via Tupul stretching around 51 Km is being taken up by ABCI, funded by ADB costing Rs 114 crores; and from Zoujangtek to Rengpang stretching 69.52Km is reconstructed by Keystone Company funded by NEC costing Rs 92.25 crores.
Continuing his speech, Gaikhangam expressed that since the start of the reconstruction of the road, the progress has been good, though there was tension created by some notorious elements which is being resolved now. He appealed to all workers and public of the area not to create any further disturbance in developmental works.
He also announced that by coming February, the Government will inaugurate SDO office and added that the Irang Bridge and Leimatak Bridge will soon be reconstructed will modern technology.
The Deputy Chief Minister after attending Golden Jubilee celebration visited Keystone working office situated at Pinjang where he interacted with the keystone staffs and took stock of the work progress. He also instructed the security personnel deployed at the area to discharge their duty for safety of the workers and the local population to bring speedy development and peace in the area.
