Poll personnel leave for stations for civic polls

IMPHAL, January 10: Polling personnel and security forces have left for their respective polling stations today as 19 municipal councils and 8 Nagar Panchayats goes to poll tomorrow in the four valley districts.

In Thoubal district altogether 93 for councillor and 186 Ward Development Committee (WDC) Members will b e elected in four sub-divisions including Thoubal, Kakching, Lilong and Waikhong.

Of the total 186 Ward Development Committee seats 2 seats of councillors and 52 EDC members have been declared elected as uncontested.

A total of 236 candidates are in the fray vying for the remaining 91 councillor seats and 309 candidates for 134 WDC members.

According to the Thoubal DC who is also the District Municipal Election Officer, T Ranjit, there are 209 polling stations (120 in Thoubal sub-division, 33 in Kakching, 29 in Lilong and 36 in Waikhong) with a total 98767 voters to franchise their rights.

Detailing on the security arrangement, T Ranjit informed that there will be strength of 13 security personnel including two woman constables in a single polling station. A total of 10 security personnel including two woman constables will be deployed in each of two polling stations having close proximity to each other and 8 security personnel including two woman constables in each polling station having more than two stations in close proximity.

BISHNUPUR correspondent adds: In connection with the election of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats scheduled to be held on January 11, polling officials and security personnel as for Bishnupur district have started heading towards assigned respective polling stations from Bishnupur Mini Secretariat Complex today.

Under RO Nambol, a total of 8633 female and 7421 male eligible voters will exercise their franchise in 36 and 18 polling stations for Nambol Municipal Council and Oinam Nagar Panchayat respectively.

Whereas under RO Bishnupur, altogether 8749 female and 8003 male voters will decide fate of the candidates in 24 and 28 polling stations for Bishnupur Municipal and Ningthoukhong Municipal Council respectively.

While a total of 11820 female and 11868 female voters will cast vote in 24 polling stations for Moirang Municipal Council; 18 polling stations for Kwakta Municipal Council and 18 polling stations for Kumbi Municipal Council under RO Moirang.

A total of 61656 eligible voters will exercise their franchise to form local self government in the district through the election.

Five polling personnel and four security personnel have been dispatched in each of the polling stations in the district.

Personnel of VDF, Home Guard and Manipur Police are deployed in the polling stations to ensure free and fair conduct of the election in the district.
