IMPHAL, Jan 11: The Schedule Tribe Demand Committee will be organising a public meeting on January 17 at the THAU Ground to decide the future course of its campaign regarding its demand for ST status for Meiteis.
This was informed by the committee’s general secretary retired Col L Lokendra during a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club today.
He said although the Chief Minister has shown some response to the demand by personally accepting their memorandum in recent times, the committee is still awaiting a proper and positive official response from the State government till date.
By organising the public discussion, we want to bring the issue to a larger platform so that the public can share their views and ideas on the issue, he said.
This will encourage a democratic campaign in demand of the deserving Schedule Tribe status of the Meities, he said.
He further appealed to all the local clubs and meira paibis to extend maximum support to the scheduled public meeting.
