Refresher training for professional drivers held

IMPHAL, January 15: The Drivers’ Training and Research Centre in association with the All Manipur Petroleum Product Transport Association jointly organised a refresher training programme for professional drivers (Hazardous) under the 27th National Road Safety Week 2016 today at the State Guest House Sanjenthong.

The programme was sponsored by Department of Transport, Government of Manipur under the theme: Road Safety Week – Time for Action.

Speaking on the occasion, Transport commissioner M Lakshmikumar Singh said as compared to other advanced countries, the traffic system in the State is very weak.

Stressing further on the issue, he said the advanced countries have well equipped traffic system and the people are co-operative, which is the opposite in Manipur.

He said the public need to obey the traffic rules.

The IAS officer continued that although we have traffic rules, the public seldom obey them.

Safety on the roads should be our responsibility, he said adding, that such programme will certainly help in spreading the awareness on road safety.

The programme was also attended by director transport H Rosita and All Manipur Petroleum Product Transport Association president H Tikendrajit Singh as president and guest of honour respectively.

OSD Transport BK Sharma and DO Manipur Fire Service L Nabachandra Singh as resource persons talked on the subject during the programme.
