IMPHAL, January 28: BJP Manipur secretary M Rameshwar Singh today alleged that Kakching MLA Y Surchandra Singh threatened him in front of the Chief Minister’s bungalow on January 25.
Rameshwar made the allegation before a group of media persons during a one day public awareness programme on the BJP’s national primary membership drive at the Irabot Park Kakching. The programme was organised by BJP Kakching Mandal.
In his allegation, Rameshwar said on January 25, he was stopped by MLA Surchandra’s escort who were under the influence of alcohol.
He said when he refused to stop; the MLA rushed out of the CM’s bungalow and forcibly seized his car keys and harassed him.
The MLA charged him of taking his name in connection with the death of Yengkhom Krishnadas in June 2009 during a recent public meeting, he added.
He clarified before the media persons today that he had only mentioned during the meeting that the MLA should take the responsibility of finding the culprits and booked them under the law.
He continued a complaint against the assault and harassment has been submitted to the DGP and the concerned authorities.
A memorandum in this regard has also been submitted to the Chief Minister and Home minister urging them to take action and not allow such things to happen again, he added.
On the results of the recent Kakching Municipal Council election, Rameshwar said the BJP was able to win three and the Congress managed to win seven. This means that the opposition will be stronger this term.
Newly elected KMC councillor from Ward No 6 Nongmaithem Narjit said even though the Congress had been winning solid majorities in the past, they have brought development only in paper and such development are never to be found in reality.
He further charged the Congress councillor of collecting huge amount of money from the people through lottery systems in the past for booking shopping spaces; however, the shops are yet to be constructed.
He further alleged that funds for the supply of potable water under the PHED had already been withdrawn; however, the pipelines are yet to be seen.
The public awareness programme was also attended by other councillors including Ksh Jhaljit of ward no 11, Satham Premita Devi of ward no 7 and BJP backed Independent candidate N Memi Devi of ward no 3.
