IMPHAL, February 3: Following the confession of Head Constable Th Herojit on the killing of Sanjit in an alleged fake encounter in broad daylight, the Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Chungkham Sanjit convened a public meeting at Netaji Memorial Club today and resolved certain resolutions regarding the infamous case.

The meeting resolved to launch intense form of agitation till justice is delivered to the killing case and help submission of confession of the killer cop before the court.

Along with resolving to immediately suspend the then Additional SP Imphal West Dr Ak Herojit now the SP Impha West, who ordered to kill Sanjit, the gathering also concluded to appeal to civil society organizations to extend full cooperation in seeking justice to the case.

The public meeting further resolved to condemn the Chief Minister’s statement made in the Assembly session that there is no other solution to the insurgency problem in the State rather than to kill all the insurgents.

Meanwhile, demanding befitting punishment to those police personnel who are involved in the killing of Sanjit and Rabina at BT Road on July 23, 2009 in accordance to law, four organizations based in Delhi submitted a memorandum to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today.

The four organizations are Manipur Young Mind Association; Fight UR Note Alone; Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students and All Manipur Thanga People’s Welfare Association.

The submission of the memorandum by the organizations came following the sensational confession of Head Constable Th Herojit on the killing of Sanjit in a staged fake encounter in broad daylight on orders of the then Additional SP Imphal West Dr Ak Herojit now the SP Imphal West.

Video clippings of the incident posted by Tehelka magazine on YouTube and CD video of the confession of the killer cop made in the news channel IBN Live were enclosed along with the memorandum.

The memorandum demanded the State government to provide protection to Head Constable Th Herojit who is the main accused in the fake encounter case.

The State government should bear sole responsibility if anything happens to Herojit during the course of the ongoing inquiry of the case, it stated.

Pointing out that all these inhuman crimes and atrocities are due to the imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) Act, 1958 in the State, the organizations urged to lift the draconian act from the State as soon as possible.

It also demanded the State government to provide ex-gratia to the families of Sanjit and Rabina at the earliest and hand over the case to Special Investigation Team (SIT) to award stringent punishment to all the police personnel involved in the fake encounter carried out in broad daylight.

SP Imphal West Dr Ak Jhalajit should be removed from his post for his involvement in the killing and an inquiry should be constituted immediately against the police officer, the organizations further demanded.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and the then Director General of Police Y Joykumar should publicly clarify on the killing as Head Constable Herojit confessed that both of them knew about the staged fake encounter, the memorandum said.

As the cop has confessed his deed on the killing, it is now up to the State government to clarify who killed Rabina, it maintained.

The organizations in the memorandum cautioned that it will resort to launch different forms of agitation along with other organizations based in the national capital in case the Central and State government fail to fulfil their demands within a stipulated time.
