IMPHAL, February 9: The turf war among leaders of the Manipur People’s Party which is one of the oldest regional parties of the North East States has seemingly aggravated since it took the legal route.

The case was also heard today at the court of the Civil Judge Senior Division No 1 in Lamphelpat.

The civil case was filed by five individuals who were declared expelled by N Sovakiran who is claiming to be the president of the party.

The petitioners S Dilip, Ak Sanaton, N Ojit, N Singhajit and L Apabi have claimed before the court that they are bonafide members of the party and their expulsion from the party is unreasonable.

The court had summoned N Sovakiran today; however, he failed to appear before the court and sent his counsel instead.

His counsel submitted legal supports before the court endorsing that his appearance is uncalled for.

The counsel also appealed to the court to fix the next hearing of the case on March 2 instead of summoning Sovakiran.

On hearing the respondent’s counsel, the petitioners’ counsel also appealed that extending the case hearing till March 2 is very far and instead to dispose the case at an earlier date.

Following the arguments of both the counsels, the court has fixed February 29 for the next proceeding of the case.

It is also learnt that the Sovakiran was summoned before the court so that both the petitioners and the respondent could place their side of stories before the court.
