IMPHAL, February 19: The AMGSU, Ukhrul Unit strongly condemned the inhumane act of the youth who misbehaved with the students during the Saraswati Puja on February 13, 2016 at Panikheti Government School, Irang part-II Senapati district under Kangpokpi Police Station, said a press released of the Manipur Gorkha Student Union Ukhrul Unit signed by its president Ramesh Adhikari.
The release said some youths assaulted students and staffs of the school who came to attend and celebrate the Hindu festival.
It said the assailants did not even spare girls and ladies.
It further charged that the rowdy youth also assaulted member of Panikheti, Nar Bahadur Adhikari and his wife Kamala Adhikari and their three daughters. The injured members of the family are still hospilised at Mission Hospital Kangpokpi, it added.
It said this is not the first time Gorkhas in the state are harassed and physically tortured. The union`s unit President also stated in the release that Gorkhas will not tolerate such incidents in the future.
Such incidents may also break the friendly relationship between the peace loving Gorkhas of Manipur and other communities.
Ukhrul unit of the union also sought support from all organisations in Ukhrul district. It also appealed to the authorities for a befitting punishment to the accused, and compensation for the victims.
