CM emphasizes role of Eco & Stats Directorate

IMPHAL, February 27: Asserting that Economics & Statistics Directorate is one of the core governmental departments though it garners little recognition, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh maintained that Gross State Domestic Products (GSDP) of the State is based on the extensive data collected by the department from the hills and valley.

The CM was speaking at inauguration of the newly constructed Administrative Block and Auditorium of the Economics & Statistics Directorate at Lamphelpat, Imphal West today.

The Administrative Block and Auditorium was constructed by Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) under the funding of Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation) at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crores. The construction had begun from September 2013.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Ibobi hoped that the inaugurated buildings will facilitate efficiency of the department staffs.

He assured that the government will look into service regularization for the Primary Investigators of the directorate, who were recruited on contract basis to increase its workforce.

The CM also assured that lack of required manpower in the department will be addressed and ensure that all needful materials for the staffs are availed.

During the function, Ibobi released ‘’Economics Survey, Manipur 2015-16’’.

Deputy CM Gaikhangam who was the functional president stated that firm and good planning are required to bring all round development in the State.

He asserted that India, the largest democracy in the world strictly believes in good planning that is why it has been coming up with five-year planning with the sole objective of bringing collective development in every part of the country including far flung areas.

The most important thing in executing any good planning is collection of its data which is to be done by the Economics & Statistics Directorate, he said.

Gaikhangam also said that the other department which people give little recognition despite its influential role is Directorate of Information & Public Relation (DIPR).

Attending as guest of honour, RD & PR and Economics & Statistics Minister Francis Ngajokpa informed that the buildings constructed in the form of Ground Plus One structure (G+1) measured 46 meter in length and 18.10 meter in breadth.

He said that MSRRDA is constructing buildings of Manipur Institute of Rural Development Agency near DC Office at Porompat, Imphal East.

A target has been set to complete the construction by the week-end of coming month of June, the Minister added.

Principal Secretary (Economics & Statistics) MH Khan; Principal Secretary (Cooperation) Moses Chalai and several top officials of the directorate were also present at the inauguration function.
