IMPHAL, March 11: The Congress is a sinking ship, and its MLAs have started seeking political safety to desert the sinking ship, BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba said today referring to the reported internal crisis in the ruling Congress.

This is an explicit sign of the party’s downfall, he continued.

However, at the same time, it is very unfortunate that the dissenting MLAs are still unable to move a no confidence motion against the Chief Minister, and instead they are demanding a reshuffle of cabinet posts, he said at a press conference today.

Chaoba said the present dissident movement in the Congress is more like an opportunist movement.

Speaking at a press conference at his office announcing the joining of Imphal Municipal Councillor L Gyanendra of Singjamei Ward No 15 into the party fold, Chaoba said a sinking ship cannot remain afloat for long.

Like the previous government in Arunachal Pradesh which fell recently, the Congress government in the State will also fall automatically due to its internal crisis, he asserted.

He said the internal crisis is a result of the administrative failure of the government to maintain law and order and the evident lack of concern for the welfare of the people.

The government, he claimed failed to reflect any welfare measure for the farmers, Agriculture and other allied sectors in the recent State budget.

Chaoba said BJP consider all these political development seriously.

He further charged the Congress MLAs of chasing behind contract works for centrally sponsored packages.

Meanwhile, Chaoba also approved councillor L Gyanendra as an active member of the BJP Manipur.

He further said that the BJP will defeat the Congress in the upcoming IMC election.

He charged the Congress of siphoning off huge money meant for the national highways and development of tourism in the State.

There is no State administration in the hills, and to take up anything in the hills, the government has to take permission of the NSCN (IM), he claimed.

BJP is the only alternative in the State today, he said.
