IMPHAL, March 14: Two persons were killed and three others injured in two different road mishaps in the State today.
In the first incident, around 8:30am today, a truck used in the rail line construction fell into a gorge at Lukhambi Part V about one and a half kilometre north-west of Noney Police Station along the NH 37 in Tamenglong district. Four persons were injured including the driver; however, one of them succumbed on the way to the Shija Hospital, Langol. The three injured whose conditions are said to be critical are identified as driver Yumnam Tomba Singh, 22, of Naran Konjil, labourers Y Rabi Singh, 24, son of Y Ibothem Singh of Lamjao and Ninjoudim Ngaumei, 18, son of Sathanlu of Tamenglong Bhalok Part III.
The deceased has been identified as another labourer Khaidem Naoton Singh, 19, son of Kh Ibomcha of Saiton.
In another incident, a speeding Santro car bearing regd no MN 06/L 3884 hit an iron and steel shop helper at Hafiz Hatta killing him on the spot this afternoon around 4:30.
The car was speeding towards the north from the south.
The victim has been identified as Kabir, 23, son of Kheirun of West Bengal. The impact was so strong that the victim’s head was smashed beyond recognition. The car, after hitting Kabir, lost control and hit a Maruti 800 car bearing regd no MN IK 1905 which was parked on the roadside.
