IMPHAL, March 28: Atleast two commuters were killed while over 100 others were injured in different road mishaps and brawls during the five-day long Yaoshang festival in the State.
On March 25, a 65 year old man succumbed to injuries sustained when his moped met with an accident at Nityaipat Chuthek.
The victim has been identified as Potsangbam Jay, 65, of Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai.
Sources said that the incident occurred around 3pm.
Joy who was riding his moped (bearing registration number MN01-5620) and collided with a police barricade near the traffic Island opposite the Governor’s Bungalow.
The same day, an auto-rickshaw driver was also killed when his vehicle (passenger auto) collided with an SUV (Tata Safari) along the Tiddim Road at Malom Tuliyaima under Nambol police station.
The deceased has been identified as Longjam Ratan, 26, son of Longjam Tomba.
The road mishap reportedly took place around 3.30 pm when the auto-rickshaw (bearing registration number MN07-2380) coming towards Imphal from Malom collided with the SUV (bearing no. MN01-6978) allegedly coming on the wrong direction (opposite).
Even as liquor was also recovered from the SUV, the driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the scene, sources added.
Meanwhile, over 100 individuals were reportedly injured in separate road mishaps and brawl during the five days long festival.
It has been informed that as many as 75 individuals are hospitalised at RIMS, around 30 at Shija Hospital and around 10 at Raj Medicity.
