35th World TB Day observed in Chandel

IMPHAL, March 29: Like in other parts of the world, the 35th World Tuberculosis Day was observed jointly by Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) (District Health Mission); VIHAAN CNP+ and AXSHYA Project, Chandel at the Indoor Stadium, District Headquarter Chandel today.

The observance held under the theme ‘’Unite to End TB’’ was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandel S Sambhunath as chief guest; Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Chandel Dr Romy Ngoruw as president and Additional Chief Executive Officer, ADC Chandel TS Kothar as guest of honour.

Giving welcome address, District TB Officer Chandel Dr Emerson Khartu said that the World Tuberculosis Day was supposed to observe on March 24 but held today as for the State due to Holi festival which concluded yesterday.

He further said that Government of India under World Health Organization (WHO) has been taking up various measures to eradicate TB disease from the country by 2030.

A person can go for TB test in health centres at free of cost. Free medicines will be given if he is tested TB positive. Timely detection and medication can cure the disease, he added.

S Sambhunath said that TB disease was considered serious in earlier times and persons who detected with the disease used to experience social stigma despite the fact that the disease is easily curable with proper medication.

He appealed to the people to work in unison to completely eradicate the disease which is possible.

As part of the function, a quiz competition on TB for students of schools in and around Chandel District Headquarter was held.
