IMPHAL, March 29: In a shocking incident, a 22-year old was shot dead today allegedly by his own cousin who is a Manipur Police sub-inspector on probation.
Even as the reason behind the killing remains unclear, sisters of the 22-year old denied any wrongdoing on the part of the 22-year old.
The victim is identified as Laishram Chinglemba, son of Laishram Gopen. The accused is identified as Laishram Birjit alias Chaoba, 28, son of Dr Laishram Ranbir, a sub inspector of the Manipur Police and presently attached with the 2nd Manipur Rifles.
Their fathers are brothers and neighbours residing at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai under Singjamei Police Station.
On getting information of the incident, locals dismantled the residence of the accused and damaged properties including a car bearing registration number MN 01X 1493 which was parked in the roadside.
However, police arrived at the scene and controlled the situation around 5pm.
According to family members of the victim, Birjit came to their house around 11am today in a car and asked Chinglemba to accompany him to an undisclosed destination.
They claimed that Birjit took him away and later shot him death near the CRPF camp, Mongshangei under Singjamei Police around 1pm.
Sources also said that Birjit then took Chinglemba’s body to the Singjamei Police in the same car and surrendered himself.
Sources said the body which bore two bullet holes on his chest and right knee is presently being kept at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Morgue.
Chinglemba’s sisters speaking to media persons demanded befitting punishment of the accused.
