Deprivation of electricity to public a result of bad governance: AMWJU president

IMPHAL, April 16: The Mangaal Rural today distributed around 100 solar lighting systems on easy instalment to Ithing village under Bishnupur district, as a part of the of its ongoing project to create 100 Solar Villages in Manipur by during 2016-17.

The distribution ceremony was attended by Wangkhemcha Shyamjai-president All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU), Khelen Thokchom-special correspondent of Telegraph, Khwairakpam Binarani-pradhan Thanga Part-II, as the chief guest, guest of honour and function president respectively.

The dignitaries distributed the items at the Ithing Khola community Hall.

Around 100 solar lighting systems for easy instalment at the rate of Rs 18 per day were distributed to beneficiaries which included six different able persons.

While the group also donated 10 numbers of solar street lights worth around Rs 1.7 Lakh for the village, the differently able persons were given 50 percent discount.

Delivering his chief guest speech, AMWJU president regretted the fact that many villages in rural and hill areas of Manipur are deprived of regular power supply when the world is considered as a global village with the advancement of information technology.

He opined that the reason why people are in such a sorry state of affairs, even deprived of their basic rights, was due to the bad governance.

Claiming electricity as one of the most important amenities in today’s world required in every aspect, he appealed the villagers to support the initiative of Mangal Rural trying to provide energy in remote areas.

Telegraph special correspondent, Khelen Thokchom, also said that electricity has become the most important component of modern society and nothing can be done without it.

He urged the villager to spread the words of the benefit of solar powered free energy that has no effect on environment.

Khwairakpam Binarani-pradhan Thanga Part-II, lauded the initiative of Mangaal rural which has been miserably failed by the Government.

As a part of their initiative, the group is also organising a half marathon on April 24 under the theme “Fight for a Common Cuase, Fight Against Energy Poverty” which aim to bring all the communities together to fight for common cause like energy poverty.
