CHURACHANDPUR, April 18: Horticulture and Soil Conservation joint director Ngulkhanthang alias NK Paite today inaugurated the Suangdoh Organic Horticulture Farmland cum two-day farmers training programme at Suangdoh Village in 60-Singat Assembly Constituency.
The village is about 65 km from Lamka Town.
Speaking as the chief guest, Paite said with the Centre showing keen interest in organic farming, the future looks promising.
He further talk on the benefits of organic farming and asked the villagers to encourage organic farming.
He said plants and fruits like orange, ginger, turmeric, pineapple and chillies are most likely to yield better with organic farming.
Paite further distributed vegetable seeds, organic insecticides and pesticides and sprayers to the attending farmers.
DDM NABARD Churachandpur Thangchinkhup Guite attended the function as functional president.
Dr Somorjit Akoijam (Plant Pathologist) Donald Soubam, O Keshi Kumar and Jugindro alias Ginpu Guite attended as resource persons.
Paukhenkhup Guite, who was the chief host, delivered the key note address.
After the program which was organised in three sessions, the team of officials and VA team visited the designated farming place where they collected soil from 30 different locations for test.
The program was a total initiative of the Suangdoh Village chief/VA and villagers without any support or help from the Government agency nor any NGO and was the first of its kind in the areas.
