IMPHAL, April 20: Maintaining that development and planning are indispensable in sustaining quality of life, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh asserted that it is impossible for the government to develop all the sectors at once.
The CM was speaking at inauguration of District Sports Complex at Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground, Khongjom Police Station and 33/11 KV power station at Khongjom in Thoubal district today.
Ibobi who was the chief guest of the inaugural function held at Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground said that availing basic minimum requirement for the people is one of the main goals of the government.
The government is ensuring all round development both in the hills and valley equally. There is no end to development and planning which are integral parts of sustaining quality of life. But it is impossible for the government to develop all the sectors at a given time, he said.
Appealing to the people to regard the developmental works taken up by the government as their own properties, the CM said the District Sports Complex should be considered as a valuable property of the district.
Ibobi exuded confidence that the sports complex will produce many talented players and keep youths of the area fit and healthy.
He fervently appealed to the people to extend cooperation in maintaining the complex.
Stating that construction of district sports complex in all the nine districts except for Bishnupur has been completed, he assured that a target has been set to complete the construction as early as possible.
The CM admitted that construction of some parts of the District Sports Complex which inaugurated today has not been completed.
In view of the visit of President of the country Pranab Mukherjee who will be gracing ‘’Khongjom Day’’ observation on April 23, work agency MDS entrusted with the construction of the complex was requested to inaugurate it today as a helipad solely for the President’s visit is going to be constructed at Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground, he said.
He gave assurance that the construction of some parts of the complex will be completed after the observation.
Further appealing to the people to give a warm welcome to the President on the eve of Khongjom Day, the CM said the observation will be started with floral tributes at the memorial site as usual.
The President will also take part in paying floral tributes on evening and will inaugurate the memorial monument erected at Kheba Chingthak, he elaborated.
Deputy CM Gaikhangam who presided over the inaugural function claimed that the Congress government under the leadership of CM Ibobi has brought notable development in the State in the last 15 years.
He asserted that the government has been bringing equal development in the hills and valley without showing biasness and favouritism.
Saying that inauguration of the structures and projects taken up by the government for the public will be done one after another in coming days, Gaikhangam charged the opposition parties of misleading the public by contending that the government has failed to bring development.
He said that completion of the monument cum tourist centre construction at Khongjom to be inaugurated by the President has set a record as it was completed within six/seven months against the normal duration of three/four years for a big project.
Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister M Okendro; MLA of Kakching constituency Y Surchandra and MLA of Wangjing-Tentha constituency P Brojen were present at the occasion as guests of honour.
DC Thoubal T Ranjit; DGP LM Khaute; SP Thoubal; officials of Home Department; police officers; Adhakshyas of Thoubal and Councillors of Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council also attended the function.
Meanwhile, a committee christened as ‘’District Sports Complex Thoubal, Wangjing Kodompokpi Development and Management Committee’’ has been formed after getting permission from the government.
A press statement of the committee said its main responsibility is to safeguard the construction of the District Sports Complex Thoubal from external threats and ensure maintenance of the complex.
Officials of YAS and representatives from four clubs of Wangjing are also included in the committee, it added.
