CHANDEL, April 24: Following the hailstorm that wreaked havoc extensively at several villages under Tengnoupal Sub-Division in Chandel district yesterday, local MLA D. Korungthang who is also the Health, Family Welfare and GAD & CADA minister visited the villages affected by the natural calamity today to provide immediate relief assistance.
During the visit, the minister interacted with the villagers, area chiefs and leaders of civil organizations at Tengnoupal where immediate relief assistance including tent/tarpaulin, rice and emergency lamps were handed over to KSO Tengnoupal meant for further distribution to the victims of the natural calamity.
Besides inspecting the Tengnoupal Christian Church and houses which were damaged by the hailstorm, the minister and his team also visited Chahmol and Khongkhang village where most of the houses, church, community hall and school were perforated.
Chairman of ADC Chandel Lhukhosei Zou; Vice-Chairman Joy Lamkang, Executive Member Ch. Meshil Ranjit Maring, Executive Member Kh. Morung Maring, ADC Member S. Tongpao Mate, ADC Member Morungson Maring and DC Chandel Robert Singh Kshetrimayum accompanied the minister in the visit.
Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, minister D. Korungthang said that occurrence of natural calamities is unfortunate and no one can forecast when it will occur.
He lamented that that after affecting several villages by landslide and flood in the past, natural calamities once again struck the district in the form of earthquake and hailstorm.
While assuring that the State government will provide relief assistance including GI sheets for those villagers whose houses were damaged by the calamities; the minister promised to take up appropriate action against those doctors posted at Tengnoupal PHC, who were absent at the time of the calamities.
