Man electrocuted; locals point finger at MSPDCL

IMPHAL, May 7: In an unfortunate incident, a man engaged by Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) Kakching Sub-Division died of electrocution at Wabagai Lamkhai Market. The deceased has been identified as Laishram Bijendro Singh, 53 son of L Mera of Wabagai Tera Pishak. He was electrocuted while repairing an electric post on May 6 around 8.30 am.

Bijendro was hospitalized at Shija Hospital but succumbed to the injuries today around 10 am.

Meanwhile, local clubs have pledged not to accept the dead body till the company provide assistance to the deceased’s family. They also threatened to launch intense agitation in case the demand is not fulfilled.

Reports said Bijendro was engaged by SO, MSPDCL Kakching Sub-Division Laishram Rupachandra for electric repairing works on that day.

According to a press release of Absolute Benefaction Club, Wabagai Tera Pishak Awang Leikai, another electrician namely Dev engaged by the company as for Kakching Sub-Division also died of electrocution in 2015.

Lamenting the company apathy towards lives of electricians, the club demanded removal of SO Laishram Rupachandra and assistance to the deceased’s family.

If the company fails to pay heed to the demands within a stipulated time then series of severe agitation will be launched, it cautioned.
