Lightning kills five cows

BSIHNUPUR, May 14: In a rare incident, five cows were killed when they were struck by a lightning accompanied by heavy windstorm at Kwakta Ward No 8, Bishnupur district yesterday evening around 4.30.

Reports said since locals were unaware of the incident as they were confined to their houses due to the windstorm.

The unfortunate incident came to light when owners of the cows came out to search after the animals failed to return to their respective places.

The cows were found dead lying together in a shrubby area. Of the five dead cows, two each belong to Md Juma Khan, 45 son of Samsurdin and Feroz Khan, 35 son of Abdur Rashid while the remaining one belongs to Md Abdul Latib, 50 son of Late Tomba.

The impact of the lightning was so strong that blood was found oozing out from the nose and private part of the cows.

On receiving the information, SDO Moirang S Daulat Khan and Ward Councillor Abdul Karim arrived to take stock of the incident.
