IMPHAL, May 17: Altogether 241 nomination papers have been filed for councillors and ward development committee members polls to the Imphal Municipal Corporation till the last day of filing nomination today, according to State election commission officials.
On the last day Imphal West returning officer received 15 councillors nomination papers and 21 nomination papers for ward development committee members candidates.
Imphal East district’s 51756 electors will decide the fate of 28 candidates for only seven councillors seats from various political parties covering 66 polling stations.
Among them Congress party and BJP have fielded six candidates each for councillors elections, while CPI has fielded two candidates and LJP one besides eight Independent candidates.
Thirty seven ward development members aspirants, 18 persons for first ward development members and 19 persons for second ward development members, have filed their candidatures in Imphal East district.
On the other hand, Imphal West district have 124108 electorates and 20 councillors to be elected from 62 candidates in the fray. BJP has fielded 23 nomination papers, Congress party 21, Independent candidates 11, CPI three and LJP four.
Numbers of ward development members are 40 but for first ward development there are 48 contestants and for second ward development members there are 44 contestants. There are 189 polling stations in Imphal West district.
Tomorrow is the day for scrutiny of the nomination papers filed from candidates and the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is May 20, 2016. The poll day is on June 2, 2016. If necessary, re-poll will be conducted on June 4, 2016. Counting of votes will take place on June 6, 2016.
