Bar to demand regular Public Prosecutors

IMPHAL, May 19: The All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) is all set to demand regular appointment of Additional PP and Assistant PPs to the government.

Speaking to media persons at the Chierap Court complex today, AMBA President and senior advocate H Chandrajit Sharma said, the issues to be included in the memorandum were arrived at following a minute discussion during a meeting of the association on May 17.

He said copies of the memorandum will be submitted to the State Law minister and Law secretary.

The recruitment of the Additional and Assistant Public Prosecutors was conducted through a Departmental Promotion Committee, he said.

Out of the 27 posts in the State, only two are regular staffs, while the remaining 25 are on contract basis and they are paid meagre amounts of emolument/ honorarium, he lamented.

He said the association has also resolved to include the demand for establishment of Public Prosecutor Officers in all the districts of the State having District & Session Courts in the memorandum.

Chandrajit said that the memorandum which will also be submitted to the Chief Justice of Manipur will also include selection of Grade-I Judicial Officers for the current vacant Registrar General of the High Court of Manipur according to the seniority list maintained on merit cum suitability.

Other demands of the association also include review of the tentative seniority list of the Manipur Judicial Service Grade III officers issued by the i/c Registrar General, High Court of Manipur vide notification No HCM/MJS/S-2/A&E/02132 dated 3rd May, 2016, he said.

He said during the meeting the association also resolved to demand striking out or removal of the offending clause under rule 3 under the caption ‘Amendment of Rule 7, RESERVATION’ of the Notification dated March 9, 2016 published in the Extraordinary Manipur Gazette No 1201 dated March 9, 2016 of the Manipur Judicial Service (1st Amendment) Rules, 2016.

Senior advocate Chandrajit also said that if the issues are not addressed by May 31, the association with the support of the legal fraternity and Civil Society Organisations will take up a series of agitations.
