Imphal, May 24: If the IFC department does not function properly there may come a time soon when it had to bear the consequences of public wrath, said MLA Th Bishwajit Singh today.
Speaking to media person this morning at Ningomthong Seroibam Leirak or Kha Ningomthong, he said that IFCD minister Ngamthang Haokip had pledged to repair the bank of Imphal River repeatedly in the area for the past three-four years. But till today the IFC Department has not taken up a single step to repair the wall along the river bank which was constructed in 2009-10, the MLA asserted.
People are in a constant state of panic as the water level of the river was alarmingly high promoting fear of flooding and ultimately the residents of Uchekon and Khongman came together to repair the weak spots of the river bank by themselves, Thongju MLA Bishwajit said decrying the negligence of the IFC department.
He further complained that though a pradhan from the area went to collect relief materials, nobody picked up the phone and no material was found in the godown of IFCD.
He said that the IFCD department has become defunct, and the chief engineer should work with dignity and the Minister Ngamthang Haokip should keep his words.
