KANGPOKPI, June 4: World Environment Day cum Felicitation of meritorious student from Saikul exam centre was beneficially observed today at Longkhobel Bazar, Saikul in Sadar Hills.
The joint event was organized by Kuki Students’ Organization, Saikul Gamkai in collaboration with DRDA and Department of Forest, Northern Division Sadar Hills as part of the World Environment Day, 2016 under the theme “Join the race to make the world a better place”.
Local MDC Thongjalun Mate and Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai President, Thangkam Lupheng attended the occasion as chief guest and functional president respectively.
SDC Saikul Samuel Lhungdim and other DLOs within Saikul Sub Division including Forest Department also participated in the event.
Acknowledging the outstanding performance of various students, teachers as well as schools within Saikul, the student body awarded ST. Thenkhomang Haokip, Assistant Graduate Teacher (RMS), Songphelkholen Govt. High School for his diligence and committed service as a teacher and Thongkhotinthang Kipgen, s/o Thenkam Kipgen from V.M. Nazareth English High School, Gangpijang for having scored the highest percentage in HSLC Examination 2016 in Saikul Private Centre.
The student body also awarded V.M. Nazareth English High School, Gangpijang for producing highest first divisioners in the HSLC, Examination 2016 from Saikul Private Centre and Christian English High School, New Saikul, Saikul for securing highest pass percentage in the examination.
Local MDC and KISG President also awarded a cash prize to the highest pc scorer from Saikul Private Centre as a motivation and appreciation.
A cycle campaign on World Environment Day and tree plantation drive against climate change and environment degradation was also held as part of the event.
The Cycle campaign was participated by the local MDC, President KISG, SDC Saikul, Forest dept., KSO executives and other departments’ officials apart from the student community.
Addressing more than 600 student’s participation event, local MDC Thongjalun Mate stated that environment issue is the current crucial topic of the world and it is significantly important for the student community to be aware of the various environmental issues.
He also motivate the student community to be an agent of changes over the environment issue while emphasizing the need for environmental friendly life style of the people and improve the quality of life of all living beings on the planet without harming nature.
While stressing the importance of preserving wildlife, Thongjalun Mate motivated the student community to dodge out the attitude of taking hunting as a game and involve in replacing the traditional jhum cultivation into another feasible method.
KISG President, Thangkam Lupheng lamented that the world today has stumble upon what it had done to the mother earth and it is time for the people to initiate for its revitalization.
“We are now living in the environment that we had crafted it”, asserted the KISG supremo and inspired the student to create a better environment to live in a better place.
The local MDC and KISG President while congratulating the meritorious and successful students of HSSLC and HSLC Examination from Saikul Private centre laud the constructive project of the district administration and local civil bodies particularly the KSO to ensure quality education in the area.
Apart from various other DLOs, local MDC, KISG President and SDC Saikul also joined the tree plantation drive in and around Saikul area as part of the WED observation.
The tree saplings were provided by Robert Seikholam Haokip, DFO, Northern Division, Sadar Hills.
